(note) Custom comics thread

Hey ladies,

Times when nothing happened that day I either (a) write a strip (b) dip into the archives or (c) make a feeble excuse and watch the Wire till I fall asleep.

All artists hate major insecurities surrounding their work, one of my big ones is that my strips are *always* about me, even when they are about other people. I have tried to write about other people, or make up c-razy characters but I always get stuck.

So this is why I am offering to do FREE custom comics - I say free cause it’s as much for me as it is for anyone else and its just an experiment to see if I’m capable of it. I’ll even mail you the PDF - ace!

So if you want me to make a comic as a present for someone or even for yourself - please leave your ideas below. Would be useful to have a name, interest, situation, loves, hates - anything I can go on. If you don’t want to share then just email me (aaat) carolineclifford (dottts) com.

Top banana,

LG

There’s always something that happens in a day even if it’s painfully boring - that’s still entertainment. I like that it is all about you and I thought that was the point - a blog comic diary of sorts. It’s normal to get insecure about it, but I really admire your work. It makes me kinda sad seeing you put ratings up and this post about not wanting to post about yourself. Just please yourself - don’t pander to us - what do we know, anyhow? We could lead you astray. Follow your instincts and your heart.

    Also I agree with Jane.

    ….Should give you a better idea ;)

Jane / Lola - I am following my heart! Fundamentally I want to make comics that I would enjoy to read myself. The ratings thing is more a function of the site EG I have over 200 comics so I think its useful for newer readers to see highest voted ones. Also it is interesting to me to see which ones people like, my work is still very much in its infancy so its important for me to get feedback and experiment with different ideas.

Honestly, if I was just making strips to appease people I would just be doing some 4 panel job about some karate squirrel.

I WOULD LOVE a comic, been checking your blog for months now and I love your style … but what? My life is about my girls - and my oldest is just so perfect that would be boring … but my youngest is a TERROR of the highest magnitude! Her temper is furious but short, she is very smart so she talks like an adult, reasons like an adult - but she is demanding and she truly believes she knows EVERYTHING. The dynamic between them is funny for the youngest makes the oldest cry often (she is sensitive and loving) … my youngest knows NOTHING of compassion.

Would LOVE one, if you can.

Still visiting the states? Can send you a gift card for starbucks or lunch while here?

Email address is in the comment! THANKS!

Very cool idea. I wish I could think of something - I guess there is a reason besides no artistic talent that keeps me from drawing comics.

lol, 4 panel strip about a karate squirrel…

Perhaps you could have the squirrel attacking the work of some poor defenceless cartoon blogger… ;p

    Ooooo…

    I’m totally torn.

On the one hand I agree with previous posters, in that I honestly don’t think you have anything to be insecure about. I like reading your blog because it is about you, and it feels pretty honest and genuine.

On the other hand however…a personalised comic drawn by Local Girl? How totally awesome would that be?

I wouls totally email you if I didnt think it would make it seem that you ought to be doing this. :D

apologies for totally overusing the work totally. ahem.

I totally overuse totally as well. The fact is I don’t like doing a blog when I don’t have anything to blog about! So this will give me a pool of stuff to draw. Have to say folks - might be a bit of a wait as I can only do it when I don’t have anything else to blog about!

The beautiful Claudia Schiffer enjoying a casual day out with her daughter Clementine. Claudia is currently living in London with her little Clementine and director hubby Matthew Vaughn. Claudia is a born supermodel which unfortunately means for the rest of us she is naturally beautiful, and there is little that we can do to come close to matching her flawlessness. However, here she is wearing her long blonde locks loose and free for a casual day out with her daughter. This looks is very retro, making it contemporary this year, and if you have long locks you can achieve this look very easily. It simply takes a little straightening pomade on washed hair, and then a blow dry with a flat paddle brush. If you d like to sleek the lines a little more, use your flat iron for some finishing touches. The end result is sleek, straight hair that requires little to no maintenance throughout the day. If you find some frizzies starting as the day progresses, run some moisturizer on your hands and run it through your hair t
    o smooth things out.
