that patronising review [link]
sorry been a bit slack with the posting, it is so very hard to work a full time job, be a partial alcoholic and write a blog. I do write most days though which is more than most ![]()

cormorant salvagers rock!
Well, I really like your blog. I do sometimes read American Elf but I actually like yours better. I enjoy the conversational tone.
I’m pretty sure that is an owl pellet and not an argument.
I take it your blog is apples, and AE is prison, right?
I thought the review was not so bad, and not nearly as negative as you make it out to be. It seemed pretty objectively written and thoughtful as well. I understand it’s hard taking any criticism, but if I read that review without having ever heard of your blog, it would make me interested in seeing your work, I think, and it’s nice she has a link to your blog as well.
Our Local Girl is showing unusual restraint in her response to the less that glowing review.
I love your blog. It fills me with the warm fuzzies.
Though no one has mentioned it yet, I, for one, would like to see your output when you’ve succumbed to your partial alcoholism. Let’s see how Local Girl draws/blogs after she’s had a few. I think it might be fun. KTHXBAI!
PS– It’s 2:15am here in California, and I *may* have had a few myself. Otherwise, I can’t see myself ever typing something like “KTHXBAI.” Terribly sorry for this lapse of decorum. OMG LOL BBQ!
Just checked out American Elf. I never realized a comic could be so boring and self-indulgent! One might think these words would apply to a diary-style comic, but the diary format (at least in your case) addresses the audience as an independent party, and doesn’t make assumptions about them, such as that they find every stupid interaction you have with your family to be profound and beautiful.
Btw, your comments section could benefit from some CSS styling, like adding a bit of padding between comments.
argh, having your cartoon blog compared to american elf!! what a nightmare. Not a fair comparison i agree, you both have completely individual styles, unlike my posmics.
I tried to leave a comment on his article but i couldn’t log in. it said my password was lying to the machine, which it might have been. anyway, this is what i wanted to say;
“hello. i really like Local Girl. i think her style and humour combine in a way that make it an effortless joy to read every day. it is accessible and uncompromising all at the same time”
In a way i am glad it didn’t send to his blog because it sounds all silly written down, like ive been thinking about it.
bye for today
Joe Sorry
Here’s the thing about being an artist of any type: you have to be open to criticism. That person’s review wasn’t so bad, and certainly not subject to a petty reply as such.
petty? my reply? doe - you have no idea.
I agree with doe sorry but putting out work means that you have to be able to take criticism. People are allowed to have different opinions about things and *gasp horror* post them on their blogs. The minute you put something up on the internet you are opening yourself up to that.
Your cartoons are cute if totally not my thing.
I’ve responded in my blog. The irony is that I was just writing a very unfavorable review of James Kochalka’s Fancy Froglin, which I interrupted to read this…
Joe Sorry, I have fixed my comment settings and you should be able to post without a Blogger account now. I’m female by the way.
Yes people are are allowed to have different opinions about things and *gasp horror* post them on their blogs.
I condemn people commenting on this post for condemning Local Girl for condemning that reviewer! Quick, somebody condemn me for being petty and intolerant of other condemners!
Local Girl, say whatever you want and keep being awesome.
YOU GO GIRLFRIEND!
KICK EM TO THE KERB!
